Transportation to Imagination

Childrens Books Author Jeanne Andersen
Books are a form of transportation for the mind. When you read or when a parent reads to you, let your mind imagine the pictures that the text describes. Even when you see pictures in the book, your incredible brain will expand on what you see. You can make the stories part of your thoughts, ideas, and possibilities. Try to read every day and enjoy the thrill of transporting yourself to new worlds, experiencing new adventures, and imagining new answers to ordinary questions.

About Louie's Breed

The Lhasa Apso is a most intriguing dog breed in terms of temperament. They are playful, happy, and clown-like, while remaining dignified, regal, and at times, reserved. The face of a Lhasa is very expressive and human-like. Some owners feel as if the dogs talk with their eyes. Lhasa Apsos have unique personalities and it is rare to see two Lhasas act exactly the same. Ask a Lhasa a question and they will think through their response. They tend to be independent, have a great ability to reason, and they are very smart! It is easy for them to learn and understand a large vocabulary of up to 100 words.

These adorable and ideal pets stand 10-12 inches tall, weigh between 12-18 pounds, and have a lifespan of 12-15 years. Don’t be fooled by their size. Despite their small statue, these little dogs are excellent guard dogs. Originally breed as palace guards dogs in Tibet, the Lhasa Apso warned their masters when intruders were able to get past the outside sentinels, the Tibetan Mastiffs. Their keen sense of hearing and ability to detect danger kept the palaces well protected. The breed is very sensitive to human feelings and emotions and will attempt to reassure or comfort their family when they feel it is needed. For that reason, they are very good as therapy dogs.

The Lhasa Apso first arrived in the United States of America in 1933, presented as a gift from the 13th Dalai Lama to the explorer Charles Suydam Cutting (1889-1972). Mr. Cutting was the first Westerner to enter the Forbidden City in Lhasa, Tibet.
